Voltaria

Battery Energy Storage
Providing Grid Flexibility to Support Increased Renewable Generation
RIC established Voltaria in 2021 to be a platform from which to build a significant portfolio of battery energy storage assets, starting in the UK. The target is to build and operate around 500MW of grid connected assets over the next five years.

Voltaria will support National Grid's move towards net zero by providing flexibility in power markets in order to facilitate the grid's move towards an increasing proportion of renewables in the generation mix.

RIC has appointed a high calibre management team with a CEO and Projects Director with significant experience in flexible generation and the battery energy storage markets.

Voltaria commenced developing its pipeline of projects in 2022 and and is now also in the market to buy "ready to build" projects from other developers. Voltaria's initial projects are commencing construction in Q2 2025.

Seras

Sustainable Biomass
Seras (previously Esken Renewables, and formerly Stobart Biomass) is the UK’s leading supplier of sustainable biomass fuel sourced from waste wood and forestry by-products.
The business was acquired in December 2023 with funding from Pioneer Point Partners (“Pioneer”). RIC is working as Operating Partner to Pioneer on this investment.
Founded in 2009, the company supplies around 1.8 million tonnes of fuel to the UK biomass sector (mainly for generation of renewable electricity), under long-term contracts. The majority of the renewable biomass fuel comes from waste wood which otherwise would be destined for landfill . Seras develops solutions across the whole waste and recycling supply chain, from collection and processing, to renewable fuel supply. Working with Pioneer, we will scale the business to maximise opportunities in support of the decarbonisation of hard to abate sectors.
